The cheap battery is usually the expensive one.

Cost per Wh tells you the sticker value. But a bargain NMC unit that dies in 500 charges costs far more over its life than a LiFePO4 one that lasts 3,000. So this ranks both ways. Flip between upfront value and lifetime value, and watch the false bargains drop.

How the ranking works. Upfront value is the price divided by capacity in Wh, the classic sticker metric, lower is better. Lifetime value is the price divided by the total energy the battery will ever deliver, its capacity multiplied by its rated cycle life, shown as cost per kWh over the unit's life. That second number is where LiFePO4 crushes NMC: a battery good for 3,000 cycles delivers far more energy than one good for 600, so a slightly dearer LiFePO4 unit is usually the real bargain. We show the chemistry and cycle rating so you can see it. Prices are USD, converted live to your currency, and reviewed regularly.

Common questions

What is a good price per Wh?

Around $0.40 to $0.60 per Wh for a LiFePO4 unit in 2026, with value brands near $0.35. But upfront $/Wh is only half the story, a battery that dies fast costs more over its life.

LiFePO4 or NMC?

LiFePO4 for real value. It lasts 2,500 to 3,500+ cycles versus 500 to 800 for NMC, so it delivers 3 to 4 times more energy over its life at a similar price. NMC is lighter for ultralight travel. Switch to lifetime value to see the gap.

What size do I need?

~300Wh for phones, laptops and camping. 1000Wh for a fridge or CPAP overnight and short outages. 2000Wh+ for home backup and tools. Filter by capacity.

Worth it versus a generator?

For most people yes: silent, indoor safe, no fuel, solar rechargeable. A generator is cheaper per Wh for long multi day outages but loud and outdoor only.
