AirPods batteries are tiny and degrade with every charge, and Apple does not let you replace them, so a well-used pair may only hold an hour of listening. Ask the seller how long a full charge lasts now versus the several hours when new; a big drop means they are near the end of their life whatever the cosmetic condition.
Counterfeits are everywhere. AirPods are among the most faked products on the market, and clones can look convincing. Check the serial number on Apple's coverage-check page, favour sellers with strong feedback, and treat a price well below the going rate as a warning sign. Genuine AirPods must be unpaired from the previous owner's iCloud, so ask for a photo confirming they have been removed from Find My.
Hygiene and the missing-bud trap. Ear tips and the buds themselves should be cleaned, and Pro tips are cheap to replace. Watch out for listings selling a single replacement bud or case; a lone left AirPod is only worth buying if you have lost yours, as buds must match the case generation to pair.
Value. A one-generation-old pair with healthy battery life is the sweet spot; the newest model carries a big premium for small gains.

Check the serial at checkcoverage.apple.com, look for the exact Apple model number, avoid "1:1 / master copy / hifi" listings and anything priced far below the rest. A genuine AirPods Pro 2 rarely sells under about $90.

Both earbuds and the charging case included and genuine, the serial verified, the case type (Lightning / USB-C / MagSafe), and the seller's feedback. Total price with shipping is the number that matters.
Each model as a percentage of its launch price. Two things to weigh against a low number here: batteries in earbuds are not replaceable and degrade with every charge, and a cheap older pair may not support the features the newer ones are bought for. Under each model is the actual listing that price came from, so you can see whether it is the thing you want or a bundle, a variant, or an accessory that happens to share the name.
"Off retail" compares today's used price with what the model costs new. For anything still on sale that is its current new price, so the figure is close to a discount you could really get. For anything no longer sold it is the last new price we have on record: on a boxed product like a LEGO set or a console that is the RRP, and on a part like a graphics card it is nearer what new stock was going for at the end than what it cost at launch. So on older hardware read it as depreciation against late retail rather than against the original sticker. A few rows read "above" instead: they cost more used than new, which is normal for a retired set or a part nobody makes any more.
